Building Our Future: Herscher School Construction Update

October 23, 2026

Another week of progress, and our new school is looking more complete than ever!

Exciting things continue to happen at the new Herscher Intermediate School! From classroom walls going up to major improvements outside, construction crews are making great progress as the building continues to take shape.

With 41 skilled tradespeople on site this week, there's been plenty of activity both inside and outside the building. Here's a look at what's new!

Classrooms Are Coming to Life!

Step inside the new school, and you'll start to notice some big changes!

Crews have been busy hanging drywall in classrooms, transforming the open framework into spaces that are beginning to look more like finished rooms.

Sound insulation is also being installed between rooms, helping create a quieter learning environment for students and staff.

And with more aluminum window frames and glass being installed, natural light is making its way into the building!

Behind the Scenes: Keeping Things Running!

While classroom progress is easy to spot, there's also a lot happening behind the walls and ceilings!

Crews have continued installing important mechanical and electrical equipment, including heating and cooling units and wiring in the main electrical room.

Additional HVAC equipment has been moved into the mezzanine, and workers have been busy welding mechanical piping.

These systems may not be the first things you notice when walking into a finished school, but they play an important role in keeping the building comfortable and running smoothly!

A Big Milestone at the Front Entrance!

One of this week's biggest accomplishments is something everyone will eventually see when arriving at the new school!

The concrete work at the school's front entrance is officially complete!

This is another exciting milestone as the exterior continues to come together.

Crews have also completed the concrete access area near the greenhouse and installed detectable warning surfaces along the new pickup lane.

Even the area for the school's future flagpole is being prepared!

Little by little, the finishing touches are starting to take shape around the building.

What's Coming Next?

There's still plenty of work ahead! Looking toward the next stages of construction, crews will continue focusing on:

• Drywall installation as more interior spaces take shape.

• Temporary heating to support construction activities as temperatures begin to cool.

• Equipment installation as work continues on the building's essential systems.

Each completed project brings us one step closer to opening the doors of our new school!
