2025 Varsity Outlook:

The Herscher Varsity Baseball squad will be attempting to improve upon a 2024 season that had a number of underclassmen contribute in key positions throughout the campaign.  The team played some great competition within the Illinois Central Eight Conference and were able to finish in 3rd place which was an improvement over the previous few seasons.  This year’s group was able to gain valuable experience throughout the season and post season and will be looking to carry over that success into the 2025 schedule.   Many seniors and juniors will form the team’s nucleus heading into the season. The Tiger’s returners are led by starting Senior LHP-OF Payten Young who will be expected to provide leadership after being credited with 7 wins on the mound in 2024.   Junior Tanner Jones returns as a 3 year starter and has hit over .340 in both seasons on the Varsity.  Senior Keegan Andre returns as a 3 year starter behind the plate and is solid defensively.  Mason Roberts returns after starting 35 games at Shortstop in 2024.  The pitching staff has some returning experience and therefore will be looked upon as a plus. Senior Left hander Young started 10 games and recorded 67 Ks.  Junior Right Hander Cam Baker led the team with 14 appearances and logged 43.2 innings in 2024.  Senior Right Hander Alec Nicholos recorded 6 wins in 2024 including a perfect game start in the post season. Junior Nash Brubaker pitched in 10 games and will be counted on to make more starts in 2024.

Offensively, the Tigers are lead by Sophomore Outfielder Gaige Brown who recorded a team high 41 hits. Jones had 30 RBIs out of the 2 spot in the order. Seniors Logan Egerton and Brubaker both had over 10 xtra base hits last season.

As far as the 2025 outlook goes, we are hoping with much experience gained in the 2024 season the squad can show improvement in all 3 baseball phases as the season moves along. The 2025 team needs to use the challenge of tough games in the early season schedule to improve at a fast rate to prepare for a very difficult tour in competing better with the top teams in the Illinois Central 8.

The team goal is simple and includes trying to improve everyday in order to achieve better results in the difficult Illinois Central 8 Conference.   If the team progresses as expected and everyone stays healthy - look for the Tigers to hopefully make strides and show much improvement during the 2025 campaign.
